The Product Certification assures that the product meets relevant/required Standard Specifications and applicable regulatory and statutory compliances.
The Product Certification Schemes are essentially voluntary in nature and gives the third party assurance to the customer/consumer.

Under the Sri Lanka standards Act no 6 of 1984, Sri Lanka standards Institution (SLSI) is empowered to operate the SLS mark Product Certification scheme. Under the consumer protection Act No. 01 of 1979, SLS Mark has been compulsory by Consumer Affairs Authority for 46 products.
Organic Product Certification Scheme is operated based on the requirements of SLS 1324, Requirements for Organic Agriculture Production and Processing. This certification scheme is accredited against ISO/IEC 17065 by Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB).
Technical recommendations are provided based on Sri Lanka Standards to relevant authorities for registration of manufactures.
